06 May What You Feed Your Mind Fuels Your Life
We all know how important eating healthy is and how what you feed your body impacts your energy, well-being, and happiness. Yet, what you feed your mind it just as important and overlooked far too often. We are surrounded by negative news stories, gossip, and drama that can completely drain your ambition and make you questions if your goals are even possible and worth going for.
You must protect your mind. Be careful what you feed it.
Stay away from the news, toxic people, and negativity as much as possible. I’m not saying you have to stick your head in the sand and be oblivious to everything going on in the world but be conscious of where you focus your energy. There are so many positive things in this world you can focus on too and I make an effort to feed my mind with things that inspire me, motivate me, make me laugh, move me to tears of happiness, make me feel alive and on purpose. I avoid the news and violent TV, I walk away from conversations that are all gossip or I try and change the subject, I’m aware of what I’m feeding my mind on a daily basis and it’s made a huge difference in my level of happiness and peace of mind. I am able to help way more people when I keep my mind free from the negativity and stay focused on the positive ways I can make a difference in the world and to the people around me.
If you have negative people or circumstances in your life that you can’t just walk away from (and let’s get real -we all do) then outweigh the bad with the good. If you had a stressful day at work, make sure to take a little time for yourself to decompress before stepping into even more chaos when you get home. Listen to your favorite audio book or Podcast on your way home from work. Sit in your care for 5 minutes of silence, think about what you’re grateful for, who you want to be when you walk in the door to greet your family. If you’re afraid your family won’t support you taking time for yourself, have a conversation with them and let your family know you need this time to hit the reset button so you can be your best version of yourself for them.
Action Tip: Figure out what refuels you most, it may be a walk around the block, talking to your best friend, watching funny YouTube videos, reading, listening to your favorite song…make a list of your top 5 go-tos, save the list to your phone and pick something on the list any time negativity or overwhelm start to creep in. This will help keep your momentum going in the a positive direction.
